Mobile Engineer
Denver
$90k-$200k / year
About Us Our mission is to electrify the world’s homes for healthy and sustainable living. Residential electrification is an extraordinary decarbonization opportunity - 145 million homes in the United States account for 20% of our climate emissions. But today electrification is painful - it’s too complicated, time consuming, and expensive. So we’re building a new experience for homeowners, contractors, and utilities. Zero bridges the gap between the digital and the physical with a frictionless experience that makes electrification fast, easy, and affordable. Join our team to build a world class consumer experience that just so happens to electrify America. About the Role & Your Impact This is an exciting opportunity to join an early stage company of talented engineers and designers, led by seasoned climate tech veterans. At Zero, Engineers are individual contributors that report to a Lead Engineer. You will work in small teams (designer, product representative, 1-2 engineers, and a lead engineer) in six-week cycles, to take well-scoped projects and deliver new features with guidance and review from senior engineers on your team. You execute within an approach shaped with your team, bringing options and questions, and vetting technical approaches with senior members of the team. We are relentlessly focused on sustainable productivity. You should expect long stretches of deep work, minimal standing meetings, effective in person collaboration with stakeholders and peers, as well as flexibility around your personal life. You will help build our consumer mobile app, which enables homeowners to get a design and quote for their HVAC project without an in person sales visit. The mobile app is our most important digital touchpoint with homeowners, and you will own features end-to-end on iOS and/or Android. Today the app is built fully native with SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose, and the groundwork has been laid for rapid iteration and innovation. What You Bring You are strong on at least one mobile platform — iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) or Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) — and eager to grow into the other. You have at least one year of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent building native mobile applications that real users rely on. You have strong opinions about AI in the mobile development loop. Agentic coding tools - Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and whatever comes next - are a core part of how you work. You have a point of view on which problems they're great at, where they fall down, and when to keep a human in the loop on review and verification. You treat your AI toolchain the way a craftsperson treats their workshop: opinionated, evolving, and always sharpened. You engineer solutions you're proud to put in front of real users. You lean on tests, established patterns, and your teammates' review to ship work that holds up in production. You'd rather reuse a sound solution than invent a novel one and when something breaks, you make sure the fix stays fixed. You are relentlessly customer-centric. When a real user hits a bug, you want to know immediately, and you are happy to drop your in-flight work to unblock them. You see customer-reported bugs as the most important signal you get, not a distraction from your roadmap. Production problems are part of the job, not an interruption to it. You dig into the rough edges real users hit and turn what you find into concrete solutions you propose to your team to ship. You're developing your judgment for the difference between recklessness and accepted risk and are developing the skills to be an effective engineer in a rapidly growing business. You care about observability. Before a feature ships, you think about how you'll measure it - what events to instrument, what dashboard to watch, and what the signal looks like for "working" vs "broken." You're excited to work with a product analytics platform (we use PostHog) and view a live, populated dashboard as the reward for what you've built, not a follow-up ticket. You are enthusiastic about in-person work and collaborating with your colleagues in front of a whiteboard. You live within 50 miles of Denver, CO or are willing to relocate.

About the Role & Your Impact This is an exciting opportunity for those with 1-5 years of professional experience to join an early stage company of talented engineers and designers, led by seasoned climate tech veterans. We are looking for candidates with outstanding potential and serious work ethic. If you want to spend the next 5 years of your career learning and growing faster than you can imagine, and you are eager to put in the long hours necessary, Zero is the place for you. Junior Engineers work in small teams (1 designer and 1-2 programmers) in six-week cycles to take well defined projects and improve existing features. You will be given ample access to coaching, mentoring, and collaboration across the team, but will also be expected to operate effectively with minimal oversight. We are relentlessly focused on sustainable productivity. You should expect long stretches of deep work, no standing meetings, effective in person collaboration with stakeholders and peers, as well as flexibility around your personal life. The products we build serve a diverse range of customers: homeowners, contractors, and utilities, as well as the Zero employees that support these customers. Examples include a CAD application that designs HVAC and energy efficiency projects, our soon to be launched website refresh, and web apps that allow contractors and utilities to review and approve jobs. These products are built using Nuxt, Typescript & Tailwind, but no one on our team had experience with that complete stack before joining, and we don’t expect you to either. No matter what product you are working on, the code you write will be directly responsible for deploying millions of dollars into safer, healthier, and more cost-effective homes. What You Bring You want to do big things, and you want to join a team that will teach you how. You are ambitious, hard working, and hungry for growth. You have high standards for yourself, and your team. You are relentless in the face of challenges, and recognize that the only path to excellence is through failure. You are a detail-oriented systems thinker. You want to learn how to own the whole product, not just isolated features. You always anchor your work on user needs and seek to understand how users operate in a larger context. You may not have experience in climate tech or building science, but you are eager to dive into the messy world of residential electrification. You have an eye for elegance - the confluence of beauty, effectiveness, and simplicity - and there are early signs that you can build elegant digital experiences from the ground up. You value functional beauty in the physical world, and you are excited to build software that will create healthy, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces for our customers. You are a pragmatic team player. You know that products only matter if they ship, and are an effective collaborator with product designers and senior engineers. You want lots of freedom, but you know that comes with the responsibility to communicate and deliver. You are humble, kind and coachable. You are enthusiastic about in-person work. You want to know your users by name, meet them in person, and you want to see them smile when they use your designs. You live within 50 miles of Denver, CO or are willing to relocate. Nice To Haves - Experience vibe coding and/or using agents - Experience building native mobile applications - Experience at early-stage startups and/or fast-growing environments - Strong math background or practical data science experience - Experience in climate tech

We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process. The Opportunity Gusto Embedded Payroll (GEP) is one of Gusto's highest-growth bets — a platform business that enables software companies to offer Gusto-powered payroll directly within their own products. We're looking for a Head of Partner Growth to lead the team responsible for making our embedded partners successful: driving go-to-market execution, growing partner revenue, and building the operational and strategic frameworks that will scale this business toward $100M+. This is a player-coach leadership role. You'll manage a cross-functional team spanning Partner Success Management (PSM) and Partner enablement— while also staying deeply hands-on with our most strategic partner relationships. You'll own the partner growth playbook end-to-end: from GTM planning and launch sequencing through ongoing optimization, escalation management, and executive relationship development. Gusto's partnerships organization focuses on evaluating and executing strategic partnerships in new categories. Gusto Embedded Payroll allows us to bring our people platform to thousands more businesses than those we serve directly and will play a key role in Gusto's growth. What It's Like to Work in This Role Lead & Develop Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of Partner Success Managers and Partner Enablement Set the operational rhythm for the partner growth function — including planning cadences, escalation workflows, and performance management Coach team members on partner strategy, executive communication, and cross-functional navigation Drive Enablement with the ideation, creation, and execution of enablement frameworks and materials. Strong systems thinker GTM playbook experience : Hands-on experience building go-to-market plans from scratch — including co-marketing, keyword strategies, content roadmaps, and launch sequencing Full-funnel fluency : Understands the complete marketing and sales journey from demand gen through conversion, activation, and retention. Can diagnose where a partner motion is leaking value and prescribe the right intervention AI fluency : Actively uses AI tools (e.g., LLMs, automation platforms) to accelerate workflows, improve decision quality, and build team capability. Comfortable leading an AI adoption agenda within a team Executive communicator : Strong ghostwriter and strategic communicator who can represent the partnership function credibly with C-suite stakeholders — both internally and at partner organizations Strong sense of ownership and resilience : Thrives in ambiguity, takes initiative, and drives outcomes without waiting for permission Exceptional written and verbal communication : Can shift register fluently between partner-facing emails, internal Slack, leadership documents, and board-level narratives Strong Nice-to-Haves Experience with embedded or platform business models (APIs, developer tools, B2B2B) Knowledge of payroll, HR tech, or fintech software ecosystems Experience managing partner P&Ls, cost-to-manage models, or portfolio-level financial analysis "Gets" the building-mode opportunity — has scaled a partner function from early stage, not just inherited a mature program Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at: $230,215 - $270,500 in San Francisco, CA; New York, NY $195,745 - $230,000 in Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Las Vegas, NV If you are outside of the geographic areas above, your application will not be considered at this time.
