Description

You will own the implementation and scale-up of novel polymer material systems for Starship hardware, providing guidance on materials selection, testing, and analysis. You'll coordinate qualification testing, support root cause failure investigations, and drive process improvements for the world's most powerful launch vehicle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in materials science, materials engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, or other engineering discipline
• Experience characterizing, testing, and evaluating plastics, elastomers, and adhesives
• Willingness to travel up to 25% to other SpaceX sites or vendors
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted and stand/walk for long periods
• Willingness to work long hours and weekends as needed

Responsibilities

• Own implementation and scale-up of novel polymer material systems for Starship hardware
• Provide guidance on materials selection, testing, and analysis of adhesives, sealants, coatings, and non-metallic materials
• Generate and maintain design for manufacturing requirements for polymer materials and application processes
• Coordinate and execute qualification testing of polymer material systems
• Support root cause failure investigations for adhesive/rubber/plastic failure mechanisms
