Description

You will lead a team of 10-12 platform engineers to build and maintain scalable, secure infrastructure for CMS mission-critical platforms. This role combines hands-on technical work with strategic leadership, fostering a culture of reliability and developer productivity while making government services more effective for millions of Americans.

Requirements

• 7+ years in platform development with 3+ years in formal management roles
• Advanced skills in AWS, Azure, or GCP; Terraform; Docker; Kubernetes; Bash or Python; CI/CD; observability tools
• Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure engineering teams with strategic vision
• Strong analytical and communication skills to address technical challenges and collaborate across teams
• Understanding of security principles, risk management, and regulatory/audit requirements

Responsibilities

• Guide and develop a team of 10-12 platform engineers through coaching and performance management
• Design, architect, and implement scalable platform features and capabilities
• Collaborate with development, operations, security, and architect teams to deliver platform solutions
• Manage platform engineering budgets, resource allocation, and cloud/on-premise cost optimization
• Define and enforce engineering standards, documentation, and compliance requirements
