Description

You will join a cross-functional team working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to improve Veterans' digital experience on VA.gov. This role involves building accessible, performant, and scalable features using React and Ruby on Rails, integrating with VA APIs, and supporting legacy system migration.

Requirements

• 5+ years professional engineering experience with at least one frontend and one backend stack (e.g., Ruby and React).
• 3+ years recent production experience with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• 1+ year production experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with measurement/monitoring tools (Datadog) and application observability.

Responsibilities

• Build accessible, performant, and scalable frontend/backend features using React, Ruby on Rails, and other languages.
• Develop user-facing features with React (TypeScript/JavaScript) following USWDS and VA API/FHIR standards.
• Write and maintain 100% automated test coverage (unit, integration, functional, load, accessibility).
• Integrate with VA APIs and backend services for secure data rendering via Lighthouse API Hub.
• Contribute to full-stack development across healthcare features (e.g., secure messaging, medical records, medications).
