๐Ÿ’ผ About This Role

You'll architect and productionize actuators for robots, owning topology selection, motor sizing, and transmission design. You will work cross-functionally with controls, mechanical, and firmware teams to ensure real-world performance under closed-loop control. This role stands out for its hands-on impact on shipping robots in a dynamic environment.

๐ŸŽฏ What You'll Do

  • Design rotary and linear actuators for robotic joints and mobility systems.
  • Select motors, gearboxes, bearings, sensors, and transmission elements.
  • Build motor and gear ratio sizing models with duty cycle and thermal limits.
  • Evaluate transmission types and justify tradeoffs for each application.
  • Partner with controls engineers to meet bandwidth and torque-control requirements.

๐Ÿ“‹ Requirements

  • 5+ years designing actuators for legged robots or dynamic systems.
  • Deep understanding of transmission tradeoffs (harmonic, planetary, cycloidal, etc.).
  • Ability to size motors and gear ratios from robot-level requirements with mathematical justification.
  • Proficiency with CAD (CATIA, NX) and FEA for structural and thermal analysis.

โœจ Nice to Have

  • Experience with motor control and sensor integration (encoders, torque sensors).
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFA and supplier engagement for manufacturing.

๐ŸŽ Benefits & Perks

  • ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Flexible PTO
