Description

As an extern, you will conduct legal and policy research, assist with court documents and advocacy materials, and participate in hearings and meetings. You will contribute to projects in prosecutorial accountability, police accountability, decarceration, and immigrants' rights.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in law school or a graduate program in criminal justice, public policy, or a related field
  • Demonstrate a passion for criminal justice and immigrants' rights and the overarching mission of the ACLU
  • Strong research, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to work for social justice and the ideals of the ACLU

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal and policy research and analysis
  • Help author advocacy materials, portions of court documents, and pre-litigation demand letters
  • Assist with legislative or other local campaigns
  • Attend and participate in hearings, meetings with policy-makers and advocates, appellate arguments, trial court proceedings, and depositions
