Description

You will serve as a materials expert on the Starship team, supporting component hardware such as valves, actuators, and combustion chambers. You'll improve special processes like additive manufacturing, casting, and forging, and collaborate across design, analysis, and manufacturing to advance SpaceX's next-generation vehicles.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in materials engineering or other engineering discipline
• 2+ years of professional work experience in a materials engineering role
• 1+ years of experience with additive manufacturing, casting, forging, brazing, diffusion bonding, welding, or heat treating
• Familiarity with standard testing methods for materials and development of design allowables
• Experience with failure analysis and characterization techniques such as FTIR, SEM, and metallography

Responsibilities

• Provide materials and process support for propulsion, mechanism, and valve system designs and manufacturing
• Develop physical, mechanical, and thermal properties for materials
• Improve special processes through characterization and development
• Perform root cause investigations using fractography, metallography, and testing
• Collaborate with engineering teams to solve complex material and processing challenges
