Description

You'll work at the heart of Gusto's core applications, championing Ruby and Rails to help hundreds of product engineers ship faster and more confidently. You'll modernize foundational systems, build reusable tools, and drive automation that scales as the number of services and engineers grows.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience
  • Deep working knowledge of Ruby on Rails or equivalent backend experience with willingness to go deep on Rails
  • Experience building developer tooling, shared libraries, or platform infrastructure serving 10s or 100s of engineers
  • Comfort working with colleagues as customers with strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows

Responsibilities

  • Seek out and solve inefficiencies in tooling, frameworks, and feedback mechanisms
  • Advance Rails and Ruby upgrades across core applications with automation and AI-assisted tooling
  • Build and maintain reusable libraries, gems, and patterns
  • Steward and improve shared CI tooling including Danger, Sorbet, RuboCop
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to understand pain points and ship solutions iteratively
