💼 About This Role

You'll serve as a trusted legal advisor at Esalen Institute, a mission-driven nonprofit focused on human potential. You'll provide proactive counsel on governance, employment, partnerships, and risk management, supporting CEO and board decisions with a pragmatic, mission-aligned approach.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Advise CEO, leadership, and board on legal, regulatory, and governance matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including vendor, faculty, and partnership agreements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws including nonprofit and employment law.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel and oversee legal risk assessment.

📋 Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active California bar license.
• 7-10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience in nonprofit or mission-driven environments.
• Expertise in nonprofit governance, contract drafting, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven ability to advise senior leadership and boards with clear, practical legal recommendations.
