You'll architect and build scalable backend systems for Toast's Retail Experience team, shaping retail-first improvements across the platform. Your core impact will be closing gaps between current offerings and retail operator expectations. This role offers the chance to influence long-term retail strategy and leverage cutting-edge AI tools to enhance development velocity.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Architect and build scalable backend systems for retail-first experiences.
• Identify and address gaps in existing services for performance and consistency.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Frontend, and Platform teams.
• Lead technical design discussions and influence architectural decisions.

📋 Requirements

• 8–10+ years building production backend systems at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar OO languages.
• Deep experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and data models.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and/or event-driven architectures.

✨ Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Familiarity with AI/ML tools for development workflows.
