Description

As a Starshield optical engineer, you will design, validate, and operate free-space optical systems for laser communications and imaging products on satellites, directly contributing to mission-critical applications like next-generation star tracking.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in optical engineering, physics, or related field
• Experience in free-space optical system design
• Proficiency in optical system modeling and simulation tools
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment

Responsibilities

• Apply optics and photonics knowledge to optical system design, analysis, and validation
• Represent optical system in cross-disciplinary trades and issue resolution
• Define requirements for high-performance optical systems in challenging environments
• Lead optical architecture definition through trade studies, concept of operations, and risk reduction testing
• Participate in verification testing including environmental qualification and performance characterization
