Description

As a Lead AI Engineer at Klaviyo, you will design and build scalable backend systems and APIs to power AI products and agentic solutions, owning complex services end-to-end and collaborating with product, ML, and data teams to turn AI ideas into reliable production capabilities.

Requirements

• Hands-on backend engineering experience with distributed systems
• Experience building scalable AI services and data pipelines
• Proficiency in async processing and low-latency systems
• Strong collaboration skills across product, ML, data, and platform teams
• Familiarity with AI evaluation, safety/guardrails, and observability

Responsibilities

• Design and build core AI services with scalable, low-latency backend systems and APIs
• Scale AI data and inference pipelines for generative and agentic models
• Build and harden AI serving systems for LLMs, tools, evaluators, and retrieval systems
• Evolve agentic architecture for planning, tool calling, and feedback mechanisms
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers in distributed and AI-powered systems
