💼 About This Role

You'll build and lead the engineering organization for Upstart Bank's core platforms, including ledgering, funding, deposits, and payments. You'll drive technical strategy and architecture to enable a scalable, audit-ready infrastructure for a modern banking platform. This role offers a rare opportunity to build a bank platform from an early foundation rather than inherit legacy systems.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Build the Upstart Bank engineering organization from a seed team to a scaled domain with multiple teams and managers.
• Define technical strategy and architecture for ledgering, funding, deposits, payments, marketplace integrations, and reporting.
• Set organization design, hiring strategy, and leadership bench to scale the engineering org.
• Partner with Product and cross-functional leaders to translate business and regulatory priorities into engineering delivery.

📋 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience including at least 5 years of direct people management.
• Experience building and scaling engineering organizations through rapid growth or formation.
• Experience leading engineering in regulated or high-control environments with reliability and auditability critical.
