Description
As a Supplier Development Engineer on the Starlink Space Lasers team, you will build and scale a technical supply base for free-space optical communication systems, driving suppliers from concept to full-scale production. You'll collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to improve quality, cost, and delivery, while leading supplier quality issue resolution and implementing production part approval processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM
- 2+ years in manufacturing or process engineering (internship qualifies)
- 2+ years hands-on experience in optics, photonics, laser technology, or precision mechanical design/manufacturing/testing
- Willingness to work long hours and weekends when needed
- Ability to travel 25-60% of work week
Responsibilities
- Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity for mechanical hardware used in satellites and ground stations
- Collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to understand piece part, assembly, metrology, and sub-system design intent
- Drive design for manufacturing feedback for efficient and scalable production
- Lead resolution of supplier quality issues through root cause analysis
- Define technical requirements and ensure supplier compliance
