Description

As a Supplier Development Engineer on the Starlink Space Lasers team, you will build and scale a technical supply base for free-space optical communication systems, driving suppliers from concept to full-scale production. You'll collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to improve quality, cost, and delivery, while leading supplier quality issue resolution and implementing production part approval processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM
• 2+ years in manufacturing or process engineering (internship qualifies)
• 2+ years hands-on experience in optics, photonics, laser technology, or precision mechanical design/manufacturing/testing
• Willingness to work long hours and weekends when needed
• Ability to travel 25-60% of work week

Responsibilities

• Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity for mechanical hardware used in satellites and ground stations
• Collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to understand piece part, assembly, metrology, and sub-system design intent
• Drive design for manufacturing feedback for efficient and scalable production
• Lead resolution of supplier quality issues through root cause analysis
• Define technical requirements and ensure supplier compliance
