Description

As a Backend Engineering Intern at Cockroach Labs, you'll design and code for our distributed database CockroachDB, working on a project that aligns with your interests and will be presented to the entire engineering organization. You'll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and product managers, and your contributions will live on in our open-source repository.

Requirements

• Pursuing studies in CS, Software Engineering, or related field; graduating Winter 2026-Spring 2027
• Coursework in distributed systems, concurrency control, data replication, file systems, or SQL processing
• Comfortable with Go, C/C++, Java, or Python
• Past experience working on production-level code
• Interest in Cockroach Labs' mission and CockroachDB

Responsibilities

• Design, code, and test backend of distributed database CockroachDB
• Complete a project shared with entire engineering organization
• Work closely with engineers and product managers across cloud and database teams
• Ensure CockroachDB remains scalable, survivable, and consistent
• Meet regularly with Mentor and Manager for feedback and skill refinement
