Description

As a Lead Back-End Engineer at Code and Theory, you will design and implement scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs, combining hands-on execution with technical leadership. You will work with cross-functional teams to build robust, secure server-side applications that drive business growth for Fortune 100 and startup clients.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience across production systems
• Strong fundamentals in APIs, data modeling, performance, security, and system design
• Experience with modern CMS platforms (headless or decoupled setups)
• Experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, Route53, ELB)
• Ability to work with Docker and Docker compose

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs with focus on reliability and security
• Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs for headless frontends and system integrations
• Optimize database schemas, queries, and caching strategies for performance and scalability
• Lead code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical decision-making
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on backend work
