Description

You will lead the search backend team at Pinterest, driving major areas of the search engine for over 450 million monthly active users. Your work will involve innovative applications of NLP and Vision Models to enhance multimodal search, query understanding, and personalization, collaborating closely with engineering teams to deliver a superior search experience.

Requirements

• Experience leading large-scale production search, recommendation, or ads systems with state-of-the-art ML.
• 7+ years software development experience; 3+ years leading ML-based engineering team of 5+.
• Bachelors in CS or related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, Codex) and LLM productivity tools.
• Strong product sense and ability to drive end-to-end roadmap of production systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead search backend team covering indexing, ranking, query understanding, personalization, ML retrieval, shopping, videos, and infrastructure.
• Work on innovative NLP and Vision Model applications for query recommendations, multimodal search, and query-based module generation.
• Collaborate with Search Product, Infrastructure, Research, and Content Signals teams.
• Drive team vision and provide visibility to senior leadership.
• Mentor and grow managers, leaders, and engineers; build a culture of excellence.
