💼 About This Role

You'll define and drive the technical strategy for Patreon's backend platform and foundational infrastructure. You'll lead architecture and implementation of scalable distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven platforms. This role offers the chance to shape cross-functional decision-making and mentor engineers across the organization.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Define and drive technical strategy for backend platform and infrastructure.
• Lead architecture and implementation of scalable distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven systems.
• Lead modernization efforts across backend architecture, service boundaries, and data access patterns.
• Establish technical standards and best practices around reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Partner with product engineering teams to align platform capabilities with business needs.

📋 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building large-scale backend systems with depth in distributed systems and platform architecture.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, high-throughput APIs, and low-latency architectures supporting millions of DAUs.
• Experience with databases, caching systems, and storage technologies (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, Redis, DynamoDB).
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Rust.

• Experience operating systems in cloud-native environments such as AWS and Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
• Strong operational excellence mindset including incident response and production debugging.
• Experience mentoring Staff and Senior engineers and contributing to engineering culture.
