You'll join the Product Safety and Integrity team at the Wikimedia Foundation to build security features protecting Wikipedia and its users. You'll design, develop, and deliver security features for the MediaWiki platform, a top 10 website. You'll work on modern authentication technologies and anti-abuse mechanisms to keep the platform resilient.

🎯 What You'll Do

  • Design and deliver security features with safety and security in mind.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on safe architectural choices.
  • Conduct security and privacy reviews of features.
  • Provide support for application security incidents and operations.

  • 5+ years as a software engineer, ideally with security or privacy focus.
  • Experience in modern web application development (e.g., PHP and JavaScript).
  • Ability to drive technical quality in testing, observability, and reliability.
  • Proven ability to create proofs of concept and break down complex projects into tasks.

✨ Nice to Have

  • Experience with anti-abuse mechanisms like bot detection.
  • Prior work building security countermeasures at web, backend, database levels.
