Description

You will partner with the animal husbandry team and veterinarians to provide high-level care for a diverse collection of species, including exotics and domestics with a focus on birds and small mammals. Your role involves aiding examinations, assisting in surgeries, managing hospitalized animals, and performing lab tests to ensure the highest welfare standards.

Requirements

• Degree in veterinary technology, animal science, biology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 4+ years experience as a veterinary technician, preferably with wildlife species
• Expertise in veterinary care of a variety of wildlife species
• Strong animal handling skills for veterinary procedures
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work in varying conditions

Responsibilities

• Aid with examinations and interpretation of diagnostic data for accurate disease and injury diagnoses
• Assist in surgical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring and instrument preparation
• Care for hospitalized or quarantined animals, including medication administration and sample collection
• Document observations and medical treatments in the animal record keeping system
• Perform laboratory tests such as fecal exams, blood work, urinalysis, and microbiological cultures
