Description

You will own the complete lifecycle of cast and welded components—from material selection through qualification, production, and field performance—for advanced defense systems. You'll establish specifications, lead supplier qualification, and mentor junior engineers, ensuring structural integrity through first principles and metallurgical expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 7-10 years hands-on industry experience with castings and/or welding in aerospace, defense, or marine applications
  • Deep metallurgical knowledge of solidification, weld metallurgy, HAZ behavior, and failure mechanisms
  • Practical expertise with WPS/PQR, casting parameters, and qualification testing per AWS, AMS, MIL-STD
  • Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings including weld symbols and GD&T

Responsibilities

  • Own casting and welding processes from concept through production across aluminum, steel, titanium, and nickel-based alloys
  • Establish internal specifications, test protocols, and acceptance criteria for castings and welds
  • Lead supplier qualification of foundries and welding shops
  • Design and execute characterization programs using metallography, SEM/EDS, mechanical testing, and NDT
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions
