Description

As a Senior Research Engineer on the Systems Engineering team, you will assess collision risk by developing tooling and methods that quantify collision risk from on-road logs and simulation. You will drive validation and safety case improvements through analysis and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • 5+ years technical work experience, with 3+ years in robotics software R&D (offboard or onboard).
  • Experience with simulation and on-road testing of autonomous vehicles using metrics for good driving behavior.
  • Strong algorithmic problem solving skills and Python experience.
  • Highly collaborative with strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Self-starter and fast learner, able to prioritize and manage workload to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop methods to evaluate collision risk in conflict scenarios using crash dynamics and predictive behavior modeling.
  • Develop labeling processes and simulation software for parameter extraction from logged conflict scenarios.
  • Leverage scientific literature and real-world data to model evasive maneuvers and collision severity.
  • Evaluate, track, and report collision risk, making strategic recommendations for test realism, autonomy architecture, and mitigations.
  • Communicate risks and requirements effectively in a cross-functional product development team.
