💼 About This Role
You'll study laser–plasma interaction and laser propagation for Inertial Fusion Energy, improving coupling efficiency and predictive modeling. You'll work with systems modeling and laser science teams to reconcile target design with manageable LPI. This role collaborates with LLNL on cutting-edge fusion research.
🎯 What You'll Do
- Study speckle formation and beam smoothing in high-powered laser systems.
- Use pF3D to estimate laser propagation and instability growth.
- Collaborate with LLNL on modeling LPI using their simulation capabilities.
- Design and analyze laser–plasma experiments to study energy coupling and instability mitigation.
📋 Requirements
- PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
- Strong foundation in plasma physics and computational modeling.
- Background in laser–plasma interaction or inertial confinement fusion research.
- Experience with simulation tools or programming (Python, C++, or equivalent).
✨ Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Maxwell–Vlasov (MV), MVFP, and PIC codes.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
