💼 About This Role

You'll launch and lead ProPublica's new investigative unit in California, hiring and supervising four reporters and a fellow. Your team will produce compelling investigations that spur change, exploring the consequences of state policies and leaders. This role offers the chance to build a newsroom from the ground up in the nation's largest state.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Hire and oversee four staff investigative reporters and a fellow
• Supervise reporters on revelatory stories about California
• Edit stories for structure, logic, and writing quality
• Collaborate with researchers, data viz, engagement, and visual staff

📋 Requirements

• At least 5 years managing or leading complex investigations
• Previous experience leading a team or newsroom
• Experience collaborating across newsroom and with external partners
