Description
You will join a dynamic housing unit implementing New York City's Right to Counsel law, defending low-income tenants in eviction proceedings, housing court, administrative hearings, and appeals. You'll develop expertise in housing law, conduct community outreach, and train tenant associations and community groups.
Requirements
- Law degree (JD) or law graduate
- Admission to New York State Bar or eligibility
- Commitment to social justice and tenant rights
- Excellent oral advocacy and writing skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
- Defend tenants in eviction proceedings in housing court
- Represent tenants in administrative hearings
- Bring affirmative litigation in state and federal court
- Handle appeals at all levels
- Perform community outreach and provide legal information, advice, and counsel
