Description

You will drive the development of Starship's next-generation heat shield, from concept and mechanical design to thermal-structural modeling, testing, production, integration, and post-flight optimization. You'll work closely with production and multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues and improve hardware for mission success.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in material science, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or aerospace engineering
• 1+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, or building mechanical or thermal systems (internship/school projects qualify)
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
• Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
• Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee per ITAR

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and qualify new thermal protection system solutions for Starship
• Own end-to-end solutions to thermal challenges from concept to flying hardware
• Resolve production and flight hardware issues on the floor and on the vehicle
• Analyze post-flight heatshield conditions to drive vehicle changes and improvements
• Coordinate with analysis, avionics, structures, supply chain, and reliability engineers on multidisciplinary projects
