Description

You will join the Viaduct team to build and evolve the unified data access layer that powers over 70% of Airbnb's API traffic. Your work will shape how hundreds of engineers and open-source adopters build, ship, and operate GraphQL services, ensuring a world-class developer platform.

Requirements

• 12+ years of backend platform engineering designing, building, and operating mission-critical distributed systems at scale.
• Proven experience guiding multi-year technical roadmaps.
• Deep expertise in GraphQL, API gateways, and schema design/federation.
• Builder of developer experience tooling.
• Hands-on with modern languages (e.g., Kotlin/Java).
• Exceptional communication and influence skills.

Responsibilities

• Orchestrate and influence multiple technical tracks from core query engine to performance infrastructure and reliability tooling.
• Champion the evolution of Viaduct's global GraphQL schema and guide the multi-partner steering committee.
• Act as a multiplier for senior talent: mentor teammates and cultivate technical leadership.
• Serve as a key technical voice partnering with product, infrastructure, and leadership stakeholders.
• Shape how hundreds of engineers and external open-source adopters build, ship, and operate GraphQL services.
• Contribute to and demonstrate ownership of the open-source Viaduct project.
