Description

You will design, operationalize, and optimize PostgreSQL and MySQL databases for Okta's mission-critical systems. Work with SRE, Platform, and Engineering teams to ensure high performance, reliability, and automation across the data infrastructure.

Requirements

• 4+ years hands-on PostgreSQL experience in high-volume production environments
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals (WAL, MVCC, vacuum tuning, query planner)
• Production experience with MySQL (InnoDB, replication, performance tuning)
• Experience with Linux, networking, and automation using Go or Python
• Production experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Design and operate highly available PostgreSQL clusters with failover automation
• Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and schema design
• Build automation for provisioning, backups, and management using Terraform, Ansible, or Kubernetes Operators
• Lead incident response for database issues and conduct root-cause analysis
• Partner with software engineers to review SQL and optimize database usage
