Description

You will own the technical vision and architectural direction for Airbnb's Payments Compliance organization, ensuring scalable and cohesive systems that meet global regulatory requirements such as AML, KYC, and sanctions screening. You will drive foundational architectural shifts and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful features.

Requirements

• 15+ years of technical experience, 10+ years in fast-paced tech environment
• Prior knowledge of Regulatory Compliance standards (AML, KYC, sanctions screening) and experience implementing them at scale
• Proven track record of setting technical direction for large engineering organization
• Experience designing systems across multiple teams focusing on cohesion and reusability
• Excellent communication and influence skills
• Strong problem solver with experience operating production systems at scale
• Hands-on experience leading large project teams and making high-stakes design tradeoffs
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience
• Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages (Java/Ruby/Go/C++/etc.)
• Deep understanding of architectural patterns for high-scale web and data applications

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end system design vision for the Compliance organization
• Drive foundational architectural shifts including move from account-centric to customer-centric model
• Lead technical strategy for expanding KYC capabilities
• Architect systems adaptable to evolving digital identity landscape
• Ensure technical foundations are flexible for unforeseen regulatory mandates
• Partner with technical leaders across organizations for alignment
• Work with Product, Design, Policy, Legal, Operations cross-functional partners
• Lead and mentor engineers
• Advocate for systemic improvements and operational excellence
