Description

This externship offers law and graduate students the opportunity to work directly with attorneys on litigation and policy work safeguarding free speech, privacy, and open government. You will conduct legal and policy research, draft reports and court documents, and attend hearings and meetings.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in law school or graduate program in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Public Policy, Political Science, Journalism, or related field
  • Strong interest in civil liberties and free speech, technology, and privacy
  • Strong research, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to social justice and ideals of the ACLU
  • Must earn academic credit for participation (school year interns)

Responsibilities

  • Legal and policy research and analysis
  • Authoring reports, advocacy materials, court documents, and demand letters
  • Assisting with legislative or local campaigns
  • Attending public hearings, meetings with policy-makers and advocates
  • Attending appellate arguments, trial court proceedings, and depositions
