Description
As a member of the Materials Engineering team at SpaceX, you will own solving complex materials challenges for single crystal casted components used in gas turbines. You'll partner with vendors and engineering teams to develop, qualify, and troubleshoot casting processes, while driving scaling and implementation of casted components for Starship ground systems hardware.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in materials science, materials engineering, metallurgical engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of professional experience with metal casting technologies
- 3+ years of experience with metallographic characterization techniques (SEM-EDS, optical microscopy, etc.)
- Experience with Ni-based superalloy castings preferred
- Willingness to travel up to 35% and work long hours/weekends
Responsibilities
- Partner with supply chain, vendors, and engineering teams to accelerate development and production of SX casted components for gas turbines
- Develop, qualify, and troubleshoot metal casting processes used in production
- Provide technical review for design efforts regarding material alloy selection and process specifications
- Perform root cause investigations using fractography, metallography, and characterization techniques
- Coordinate with engineering, supply chain, and leadership on product performance, reliability, and manufacturability
