Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- NYS Students With Disabilities (Grades 1-6) teaching certification
- Evidence of success advancing learning of students with disabilities or at-risk
- Familiarity with high-quality curriculum programs
- High degree of comfort planning and implementing rigorous instruction
- Commitment to create a safe and responsive learning environment
- Capacity to develop strong relationships based on trust and respect
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple obligations
- Strong command of Microsoft Office and Google Drive programs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Completion and pass pre-employment fingerprinting and reference check
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
Responsibilities
- Assume personal responsibility for the academic progress of all students with disabilities.
- Implement a coherent, research-based curriculum aligned to content and grade-level scope and sequence.
- Collaborate with co-teacher to plan specially designed instruction that meets the needs of all students with disabilities.
- Implement mandated special education services aligned with IEP recommendations and requirements.
- Modify, differentiate, and extend learning experiences to engage all students with disabilities.
- Document all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and other instructional materials.
- Maintain accurate records including session notes, trackers, logs, and anecdotal notes.
- Use consistent school-wide practices and individualized methods to engage students.
- Implement methods to promote a student-led and student-centered classroom.
- Track student proficiency and progress using formative and summative assessments.
- Analyze assessment data to inform and adjust instruction.
- Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress.
- Use student data to reflect on lesson effectiveness.
- Assess students with respect to their special needs and academic risk factors.
- Teach and encourage the development of Amber core values.
- Develop and maintain a warm and firm learning environment.
- Establish, model, practice, and reinforce developmentally appropriate rules and behaviors.
- Formulate and implement behavioral management plans as needed.
- Build positive and supportive partnerships with families.
- Communicate with families frequently about IEP services, instructional programs, and student progress.
- Model life-long learning through professional development.
- Utilize constructive feedback to enhance learning experiences.
- Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation.
