Description

You will define the technical vision for machine learning at Instacart, building next-generation shopping experiences using large language models, agentic AI, and personalization. This is a hands-on technical leadership role shaping long-term direction while delivering production systems for millions of customers.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in CS, ML, AI, or equivalent; 10+ years building production ML systems.
• Proven track record architecting ML systems for core product experiences at global scale.
• Deep expertise in recommendation systems, ranking, embeddings, or search.
• Experience integrating generative AI with traditional ML systems.
• Experience designing ML platforms for large-scale experimentation and deployment.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical vision for Shopping ML across search, discovery, recommendations, and personalization.
• Lead development of AI systems improving product discovery and shopping experience.
• Architect large-scale ML systems combining LLM reasoning, retrieval, ranking, and personalization.
• Build and operate production ML systems powering real-time experiences across millions of users and products.
• Partner with leaders across product, engineering, and data science to shape technical strategy and roadmap.
