💼 About This Role

You'll define and drive Airbnb's long-term performance strategy across the full stack, from CPU/GPU fleet utilization to backend service efficiency and end-to-end latency. As the most senior performance engineering role, you'll build the roadmap, shaping how the company thinks about performance SLOs and influencing build vs. buy decisions on emerging hardware/software. This is a rare chance to treat performance as a first-class engineering property and make it a default part of how Airbnb ships software.

🎯 What You'll Do

• Define and drive long-term performance strategy across product, infrastructure, and business objectives.
• Lead architecture and development of performance profiling and instrumentation infrastructure.
• Partner with infrastructure teams to optimize fleet utilization and achieve company-wide SLOs.
• Evaluate emerging hardware/software and advise on build vs. buy decisions.

📋 Requirements

• 12+ years of performance engineering experience in high-scale production environments.
• Deep understanding of software/hardware interactions at scale and performance-critical stacks.
• Strong familiarity with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration.
• Experience with profiling and instrumentation tooling across CPU, GPU, memory, and distributed tracing.
