Description

You will lead free-space optical system design, validation, and operation for Starshield's laser communications terminals and imaging products, shaping the future of laser communication systems for mission-critical applications such as next-generation star tracking.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical engineering, physics, optics)
• Experience in free-space optical system design and testing
• Strong background in optics and photonics
• Ability to lead cross-disciplinary trades and issue resolution
• Experience with link budgets and system capabilities analysis

Responsibilities

• Apply optics and photonics knowledge to optical system design, analysis, and validation
• Define requirements for high-performance optical systems in challenging environments
• Lead optical architecture through trade studies, concept of operations, and risk reduction testing
• Participate in verification testing including environmental qualification and performance characterization
• Interface with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure design for manufacturability
