Description

You will lead the design and delivery of backend systems powering user experiences across the API, Claude Code, and Claude.ai, tackling ambiguous problem spaces and making architectural decisions for scalability and reliability. You'll collaborate with product, engineering, and research teams to translate frontier model improvements into shipped products while staying hands-on with code.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant experience as a backend or product engineer with a track record of leading complex projects or teams.
• Strong coding fundamentals across backend systems, APIs, and integrations.
• Led design and delivery of large-scale backend systems powering high-adoption B2B or consumer products.
• Skilled at driving alignment across technical and non-technical teams.
• Product-focused approach to building robust, scalable, and easy-to-use solutions.

Responsibilities

• Scope and lead complex, multi-month projects through ambiguous problem spaces.
• Make architectural decisions affecting reliability and scalability of systems serving hundreds of thousands of global users.
• Drive alignment with product, peer engineering teams, and research to identify capability gaps and ship model improvements.
• Design processes to prevent repeating failures and improve team effectiveness.
• Stay hands-on with code and models, building and scaling backend systems.
